FDOT 2010 Best in Construction Major Bridge Award
Eight bridges were required along this 3 mile section of new 6-lane tollway . The project had a mix of AASHTO prestressed concrete and structural steel spans. The signature structure over Hiawassee Road was the first vertically post-tensioned anchored end span bridge constructed in Florida. The anchored end spans were hidden from view by precast cladding walls placing emphasis on the arched center span. Over 42,000’ of piling and 3500 tons of structural steel were installed on the project.
