2003 FDOT Best in Construction Design-Build Project Award
One of Florida’s first Design-Build Major Bridge endeavors, this project consisted of upgrading a pair of 4,484’ long, 28’ wide, 2-lane Interstate 75 bridges that had been the scene of numerous accidents and fatalities due to daily morning fog across the swampland. To expedite material deliveries without traffic impact and to provide the least environmental impact possible, a custom build straddle lift mounted on rails was utilized. The final design provided for six lanes and full width shoulders meeting FDOT’s master plan for future capacity improvements.
