To enable FDOT to use existing rail tracks in the metropolitan Orlando area for the proposed SunRail commuter train, at-grade crossings on parallel CSX tracks needed to be replaced with overpass structures due to the increased freight traffic. The new 528’ long SR-44 overpass consists of a 5-span bridge located just south of the Wildwood switch yard. The SR-35 site, within the switch yard, was a 2-phase replacement of an antiquated 2-lane bridge. The new 3 span structure is 418’ long. Both new bridges accommodate four lanes of traffic with shoulders and sidewalks on each side
